My plan for 2021

I have been playing with my makeup today (groundbreaking news, I know) and I have looked at my makeup inventory.  My shopping habits have not been the healthiest in the previous year (blame it on the pandemic if you will), so I have accumulated a number of items, which made my makeup collection a bit bigger than previous years. Ok, a lot bigger.

I was actually quite happy with my existing makeup collection in 2019 and made most of my project panning goals set for 2020 (I will write more about my 2020 project pan some time in February). I was doing really well resisting the new products or old classics that I haven’t tried before – like essence satin touch blushes. Sometimes during the year, I was starting to feel like: “oh, it is just makeup, it is meant to be played with, it makes me happy, I would like to try it“….and then some sales kicked in, so packages started arriving in mail. Somehow, when I see a good deal, I end up clicking around and that is when I actually order it. I am not an obsessive shopper, especially with buying something that is not a necessity (like most of makeup is), so I do think twice (even though it might not look like it judging from this past year). Most of my makeup was bought at some sort of a discount. I very rarely pay full price for my makeup products. I am usually very good telling myself that I don’t need it, I have plenty to use up before I can justify buying something new, but somehow I was curious to try some of the new products that have appeared on the market. I have been very into blushes and lip glosses lately, so those numbers went high in the last year. I just couldn’t resist the Em cosmetics blush serum drops, her lip liners, glosses and the cushion foundation.

I have also tried some new makeup brands like Kosas, Sydney Grace single shadows, Bareminerals holly grail status products, plus I wanted to support black owned businesses like Uoma Beauty…so, one thing led to another and now I have to take responsibility for my actions.

This leads me to a decision that I am putting myself on a no buy for the whole year of 2021. I have never done it before and I am willing to put myself up for a challenge. I feel really good about it. My rules are simple for this year: I am not allowed to buy any make up. I can only buy a makeup product if I run out of all the products in the same category. If I run out of all my lip liners, I can buy a new one, or if I use up all of my concealers, I can buy a new one. Or if I use up all my eyeshadow palettes, then and only then I can run out and buy a new one. (I am laughing so hard now, as if I will ever run out of eye shadows).

So, that is the plan. I want to make the most of my makeup items, use it up and enjoy it before it goes bad, as it will eventually expire, especially the cream products. I want to play with formulas and colors that I already own, create and recreate looks inspired by different makeup artists, find color dupes for new palettes that might tempt me to buy along the way in 2021 and just have fun.

I challenge you to set some goals for yourselves, regardless if it is makeup related or not. It is fun to start something and stick to it, measure progress and hopefully learn some lessons along the way.

Hope you have a great rest of the day and write to you soon!
